今天終於有機會在 Met 逛了一整天.
這裡是一樓圖書管的前面, 也蒐集了很多的作品. 如果不是的研究人員, 還不能進去.
Met 應該算是世界上十大博物管之一吧! 雖然它的 collections 可能沒有辦法跟巴黎的 Louve 或是倫敦的 British Museum相比, 但是它的藝術品也是很豐富的. 大都會美術館 的永久收藏收藏品包含超過二百萬件藝術作品.包含了古老埃及 ,歐洲, 亞洲,非洲, 和現代藝術 品.
這是一個蠻特殊的 canopic jar. 這種罐子通常是用來裝內臟的. 在制作木乃遺的過程, 身體和器官是分開保存的,內臟從身體被去除,然後器官會被烘乾和被安置在空心canopic 罐子裡.
這是 Temple of Dendur. 它是一間Nubian 寺廟, 被修造在羅馬期間. 它是為記念女神Isis 而造的. 1960 年代, 美國幫助埃及挽救了各種由水壩威脅到的古蹟. 埃及為了感謝美國, 1965 年這間寺廟被給了美國.
除了古埃及文物外, Met 還珍藏了許多歐洲作家的名作
Rembrandt- "Aristotle with a Bust of Homer"- 1653. Rembrandt imagines Aristotle in all his fame and wealth, looking at a bust of the great poet Homer. If you look closely at what Aristotle is wearing, a medallion with a figurehead hangs from his decorative chain. This figurehead is actually of Alexander the Great, who was a pupil of Aristotle's.
Johannes Vermeer- "Young Woman with a Water Pitcher" -1662, Dutch. This painting was on display in UK in the 19th century. Since the end of the nineteenth century, it has become part of Metropolitan's permanent collection.
